About the Opportunity

RDN has an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time Red Seal Millwright based in Nanaimo, BC, serving the Northern Communities, including the French creek Pollution Control Centre, Nanoose Bay Pollution Control Centre, and Northern Community Pump Stations.

Reporting to the Superintendent, Wastewater Maintenance, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of RDN's Wastewater Treatment Facilities by conducting inspections, maintenance, and repairs of essential infrastructure and equipment.

In this position, you will be primarily responsible for maintaining the wastewater treatment facilities’ machinery and equipment, supporting the Wastewater Services department to meet operational goals and service expectations.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Installing, maintaining, servicing, repairing, and aligning machinery and equipment
  • Assisting contractors to minimize operational downtime
  • Completing metal fabrication, including welding small components as required
  • Managing inventory of parts and recommending purchases for maintenance
  • Developing preventative maintenance procedures and using the computerized maintenance system
  • Collaborating with Instrumentation Technicians and Operators to ensure equipment is properly isolated and returned to service
  • Supporting Operations in data interpretation, troubleshooting, and maintenance procedures
  • Conducting start-ups, shutdowns, inspections, and emergency repairs as directed by senior millwright staff

About You

To qualify, you will need an interprovincial Red Seal Millwright certification, with 1-3+ years of related experience in wastewater treatment or relevant industries such as municipal water and wastewater, oil and gas, pulp and paper, or mill and mining operations. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

The following are also required:

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to undergo a criminal record check 

The following skills and experience will be strong assets:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintenance, repair, and servicing of machinery
  • Expertise in metal fabrication, including welding and working with steel and aluminum for small parts, fittings, and piping
  • Strong understanding of WorkSafeBC Occupational Health and Safety and WHMIS regulations and procedures
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, diagrams, and specifications
  • Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for work orders
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities in mechanical and technical systems
  • Hold an Occupational First Aid Level 1 certificate (asset)
  • Excellent time management with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision
